We are delighted to say that trials got underway today (05/07/2012) in Peterborough, after lobbying by P'Boro MAG. Anglian Water, P'boro Council and local MAG members working together.
5th July 2012 saw the first composite manhole cover being laid in Peterborough. Talks began at the end of last year with Peterborough MAG arranging a meeting which was attended by MAG, Highways, Anglian Water & Road Safety. Anglian Water has now led the way. This is the first cover in a trial by Anglian Water, with more planned in the near future.
As well as the new cover also on trial is the Overbanding Tape. A self-cleaning, thermoplastic skid-resistant overbanding and crack sealant tape designed for application to asphalt surfaces to prevent water ingress and progressive fretting, which leads to road structural failure. Prevents water ingress instantly, and can be trafficked immediately.
The whole process was watched by MAG, Highways, local press, MCN & of course Anglian Water with Nick & Faye from Instarmac on hand to answer all questions. Everyone concerned was impressed with the fitting procedure and how quick it was ready to use. Highways have plans in place to trial more of the covers in Peterborough within planned works.
